HANDLES AND GUARDS
I will be running a 3 day handle making class. This class will involve putting a guard, handle and butt cap onto a stick tang blade.
We will cover
- shaping and fitting a guard
- shaping handles including burning in and drilling
- glueing , using traditional and modern methods
- peining and other fixing methods
Attendees are required to bring their own stick tang blades (just like the ones you would have made on the bladesmithing class) If you do not have blades I can make them for you (e-mail me for a price) or you can purchase them from Brissa or Nordel Knives.
If you have any exotic materials you wish to bring along, you are welcome to do so.
I will supply wood for handle material; walnut, elm, cherry or similar, and steel and copper / brass for guards.
We aim to “handle” at least 2 blades
If you are unsure of the kind of blade that is suitable for this class by all means phone me and we can discuss your options.
The course will be held on Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 9am to 4.00pm.
