- · Using a coke forge and gas forge
- · Forging the blade to shape
- · Thermocycling (reducing grain growth, which is an undesirable effect of over heating steel)
- · Blade shaping, using grinder file and abrasive paper
- · Heat treating
- · Blade finishing, sharpening, and edge testing
You should end up with a finished blade over the three days and more than one if you take to it. The weekend does not cover handling (not enough time over a weekend in my opinion) however I am running a 2 Day Handle Making class as an extension to this class so you may finish off making a knife from the blades you have made during this class.
The blades you make will be made from plain carbon steel which is a good forging and forgiving knife steel.
The course will be held Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4.00pm.
Safety equipment is provided for all the classes but please ensure that you have non-flamable clothing and sturdy shoes (preferably leather).
No shell suits or fleeces !
