- · Using a coke forge and gas forge
- · Forging the blade to shape
- · Thermocycling (reducing grain growth, which is an undesirable effect of over heating steel)
- · Blade shaping, using grinder file and abrasive paper
- · Heat treating
- · Blade finishing, sharpening, and edge testing
You should end up with a finished blade over the three days and more than one if you take to it. The class does not cover handling (not enough time in my opinion) however I am running a 2 Day Handle Making class as an extension to this class so you may finish off making a knife from the blades you have made during this class.
The blades you make will be made from plain carbon steel which is a good forging and forgiving knife steel.
The course will be held Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4.00pm if on a weekend and Monday – Wednesday 9am – 5pm in during the week.
Safety equipment is provided for all the classes but please ensure that you have non-flamable clothing and sturdy shoes (preferably leather).
No shell suits or fleeces !
