I have this axe head for sale.
Patternwelded Axe Head 255
The axe if Made by the punch and drift method and is Hot punched and then Hand forged out of a solid billet of Mild steel. The edge is a twisted piece of patternweld made from 15 layers of 15n20 and en42 steel, this is inserted into a slit in the mild steel and forge welded in place. This method insured a resilient edge and shock absorbing body to the axe. The blade is triple normalised and differentially hardened in oil, it is them tempered twice.
The axe head weighs 1lb 8oz .
The blade is 6 1/2 inches long and 7 3/4 inches front to back .
I would be happy to handle the head for you (I would recommend a 5 foot to 5 foot 6 handle in blackend ash.) I am happy to sell the head on its own.
